He also attempted to retain the previous values and thus produced a system characterized by arbitrary polyphony. The whole hypothesis was rejected or ignored, though the attraction of some of the correspondences suggested remained. A new piece of evidence can now revive the argument. Urartian pithoi frequently have two measures written on them in cuneiform.
