With no examples of the tragedies Aristotle was talking about to look at, their understanding of the Poetics was often comically distorted. I cannot write about Aristotles virtues from personal experience. I have never had the opportunity to show courage in battle or make magnificent decisions about great displays of wealth. My opportunities for choosing the mean about anger have to do more with freeway driving than with insults to political honor.
